This week Halsted hosted the Scholastic Book Fair headed by our librarian Ms. Pucci! Students got to peruse a large collection of new release books for children along with fun collectibles and knick knacks. We're happy to continue this yearly tradition!

Is your child interested in learning how to care for children in emergencies? Maybe looking to start making money in babysitting? Halsted is offering The Safe Sitter Program which is available for boys and girls ages 11 and up to handle emergencies when caring for children!
There will be 2 classes and you MUST be available to attend both classes.

This week, we are proud to celebrate Assistant Principal Week, and we couldn’t let it pass without recognizing someone who is truly the heart of our school— Mrs. Dunbar! We are so fortunate to have her as part of our community. Mrs. Dunbar is FUNdamental to everything we do- our core values, our daily routines, and the positive spirit that flows through our halls. Her calm presence, steady leadership, and genuine care for every scholar and staff member is unmatched!

On Wednesday the Social Committee hosted a bagel breakfast to celebrate two of our wonderful social workers, Mrs. Trott and Ms. Bernstein who will soon be leaving us to go on maternity leave! Congratulations on welcoming little ones into your families ladies!

Student Council is continuing to raise money for Ava’s Voice! Next week we will be collecting donations during lunch periods. Students and staff members who donate will get their names put on display in the main lobby! Our goal is to collect $100 by the end of the week. Can we do it?? It’s up to you!

6th Grader Gabriella Pizarro created a project to find a Climate Change Solution to help Halsted Middle School better the environment! She spent a month working on the project to include her idea of putting in more recycling bins in the hallway and one bin outside, how the school could fund the project, and the environmental impact of adding more recycling bins. She presented her presentation twice to her class and got both teacher and scholar feedback. After practicing her presentation skills and putting the final touches on her project she presented to Dr. Castro and Ms. Dunbar who were floored by her details, her data, and her passion. Gabby then worked with Ms. Dunbar to finalize her project before presenting it to Brian Bobrowski, our Director of Facilities. Mr. Bobrowski approved the project for funding and the new internal recycling bins are being placed around the school this week. The outdoor recycling bin will go in over the summer to be ready for the next school year. We are all incredibly proud of Gabby's hard work and dedication! She is truly leaving a lasting impact on the Halsted Community.

It's showtime! Last night the cast and crew of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr. invited their most honored stuffed animals to their Final Dress rehearsal for a preview performance, and after reviews have filed in, the rating has been determined as two stuffed thumbs up!! Tonight is opening night of the show! We hope to see you there! Tickets can be purchased with cash at the door!

Today members of the Halsted Concert and Symphonic Bands had their first rehearsal playing side-by-side in the cafeteria. Students are preparing a joint finale number for their portion of the concert to be held at the Newton High School Auditorium on Thursday, May 1st!

Before our FBLA team heads to states on Thursday, each member was asked to nominate a teacher who helped them reach the competition finished line. Each teacher who was nominated got placed into a raffle to win a Dunkin' gift card. Our very own Dr. Young was selected by Aria Y. and won the raffle! Good luck at states on Thursday FBLA team!
